Vivo on Wednesday announced OriginOS, a brand new custom skin that is set to replace FunTouchOS. The new Android skin comes with dynamic visual and operating changes. The OriginOS homescreen makes extensive use of rectangular and square widgets that Vivo likes to call Klotski grid. The skin also touts live wallpapers that adapt to the time of the day and features new animations, sound, notification, among other things. That said, Vivo is yet to reveal OriginOS rollout schedule, global availability, and support devices.

Talking about the OriginOS features, it flaunts rectangular and squarish widgets with “Nano Alerts”, which as per Vivo constantly updates the info to show the latest details on flights booked, weather, and couriers. The custom skin also favours adaptive or live wallpapers that mimic the time of day. A Vivo phone with OriginOS is said to be the brightest at midday and goes darkest at night. It further introduced a new atomic notification for easy viewing at key information, an in-built weather app that displays the current weather information in a visual form, and the ability to adjust the animation.
Another facet of the OriginOS is the atomic component library that allows users to drag icons from the component library and arrange them in a place of their own in the application interface for multitasking. “It also looks like users can still toggle between OriginOS and the polarizing FunTouch skin. Hopefully, there isn’t a significant performance or storage penalty if this is indeed the case,” said Android Authority in its report. That’s all we know so far!
It’s not out yet, but the OriginOS could debut first on the Vivo X60-series smartphones that are expected to launch soon.
