Apple announced the world’s first 5nm mobile chipset, the A14 Bionic, when it launched the iPad Air 4 this week. It is now Qualcomm’s turn to launch it’s own 5nm-based chipset, possibly called Snapdragon 875. The chipmaker may announce this processor later this year while the first commercial devices powered by the Snapdragon 875 SoC are expected in early 2021. Xiaomi had teased the arrival of a 5nm phone yesterday, presumably the Redmi K40 Pro. Now, Realme VP, Xu Qi Chase, has hinted at a brand new series that will come with the 5nm-based flagship chipset. While the executive hasn’t mentioned the processor details, it is speculated to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC. Unfortunately, not much else is revealed about the upcoming new Realme smartphone series.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC reportedly entered mass production a couple of months ago. However, phones with the mighty flagship chipset are not expected until January or February 2021. The Snapdragon 875 SoC is said to use the ARM Cortex-X1 core that will be aligned in the 1+3+4 CPU arrangement. It is expected to be priced higher than the predecessor, which might, in turn, increase the cost of phones powering it. We should know more information regarding the Snapdragon 875 SoC later this year.

Separately, Realme C17 is set to debut on September 21st as a successor to the Realme C15. The recently leaked specifications and a live image had revealed everything about the phone ahead of the launch. Going by the specifications, Realme C17 is expected to be a significant upgrade from Realme C15. It brings a 90Hz refresh rate, a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging support, a quad-camera setup with a 13MP primary sensor. Realme C17 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 SoC. We’re yet to learn its pricing details.
