Redmi K40 series seems to be in the works as we keep hearing bits and pieces of information. Now, Redmi’s general manager, Lu Weibing has teased the Redmi K40 series launch on Weibo. Replying to a Weibo post that talked about the latest iPad Air (4th Gen) using a 5nm A14 Bionic chipset, the executive hinted about a Redmi device using a 5nm-based processor. “Looking forward to a new 5nm processor?” the post by Weibing read. While he didn’t explicitly mention Redmi K40 Pro in the post, it could be the only upcoming flagship from Redmi that will be equipped with a high-end chipset.

Separately, noted tipster Digital Chat Station claimed the device that is teased could be the Redmi K40 Pro and it may be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 875 5G SoC. For context, the said Qualcomm chipset may debut later this year, meaning the Redmi K40 Pro should debut in the first half of 2021. Furthermore, the tipster mentioned the phone may have a full-screen design, support for fast-charging, and a large camera sensor. While it’s too early to speculate, Redmi could bring significant upgrades over the Redmi K30 Pro, primarily a higher screen refresh rate.

As for the standard Redmi K40, it is expected to come with 120Hz LCD display, 4,500mAh battery with 33W fast-charging, and is said to be powered by an unannounced Snapdragon 775 SoC. While it’s not confirmed, the handset may debut later this year. However, it isn’t clear if the phone will release find its way to the Indian market. We should learn more soon.
