Vi (Vodafone Idea) has launched a new night-only provision that allows users to use seemingly unlimited amounts of data between 12 AM and 6 AM. It comes bundled with a host of existing Vodafone Unlimited Daily Data recharge plans of Rs 249 and above. The unlimited high-speed night-time data offer is only applicable for prepaid users, though. Vi said that this scheme is tailor-made for night owls who like to binge-watch video content overnight. In a similar vein, Unlimited Daily Data subscribers can use any data left over from their daily quota on weekends. This should come in handy as the daily data quota often goes to waste due to minimal usage on weekdays.

Vi conducted a study on data usage patterns and found that a lot of its subscribers preferred consuming video content on OTT platforms at night. It also helps the company utilise its network to the fullest, as night-time congestion on most cellular networks is significantly lower compared to daytime. The lack of a data cap will undoubtedly attract new subscribers to Vodafone Idea. It may also help reduce the daytime load, allowing users to get slightly better service.
The new Vodafone Idea unlimited nighttime data and weekend data rollover schemes should help the struggling network provider regain some of its lost market share. Although there is no concrete information about its 5G rollout just yet, we can expect it to go live in mid-2020 alongside Airtel and Reliance Jio. Much like Airtel, Vodafone Idea will very likely use its existing 4G infrastructure to conduct trials in select regions before a full-scale rollout.
