Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma at a recent online session on YouTube shared some insights about the company’s next smartphone and concerns surrounding the IN Note 1 and IN 1b phones. Micromax product head Sunil Joon also assured the IN-series phones will be available via offline stores soon. Currently, the phones are only available via Flipkart and Micromax websites. Notably, the executive confirmed Micromax is working on a phone with 6GB RAM, a high refresh-rate display, and liquid cooling technology. The company clarified that the upcoming phone won’t be a new variant of the Micromax IN Note 1 but a new phone altogether. Rahul Sharma quoted to Gadgets360 that the company has started bundling a back cover with the IN Note 1 retail box and it will also reach customers who have already purchased the phone.

As of now, details surrounding this upcoming new Micromax phone are still limited. During the YouTube session, Rahul said the IN Note 1 was launched with Widevine L3 support, which restricts the playback quality on streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video to SD resolution, but the next smartphone from the company will have Widevine L1 support for higher resolution streaming. This also comes as a confirmation the IN Note 1 will not get Widevine L1 support through an OTA update.

Rahul Sharma has also acknowledged the back panel issue on the IN Note 1 and said, “The back panel issue emerged from a small lot. That has been rectified immediately.” The IN Note 1 has support for carrier aggregation for faster data speeds. The executive has reiterated the IN series phones are 100 percent made in India but some components are being imported from China, such as the battery. To that, Sharma responded, “We are trying to start manufacturing the battery of the II Note 1 in India by the next quarter.” We expect to hear more about Micromax’s next smartphone that will seemingly look to offer advanced features like a high refresh rate screen, liquid cooling, and more.
