OnePlus Nord N10 5G and Nord N100 prices and specs were announced a few weeks ago as the phones went official in the UK and the US. These affordable OnePlus devices ship with Android 10 and a new report reveals that they will only get the Android 11 update. A OnePlus spokesperson has confirmed to Android Central that the phones will only get a single major Android update in their lifecycle and two years of security updates. This is surprising considering OnePlus has been known to push several major Android updates to its phones. Take the Oneplus 3T, for example, which launched with Android 6 Marshmallow and has been supported all the way to Android 10. Since the OnePlus Nord N10 5G and N100 phones ship with Android 10 out of the box, they will only get updated to Android 11.

OnePlus says that “The plan for these two devices aligns with industry standards for smartphones in more affordable price ranges. As always, we will continue listening to feedback from our users and looking for ways to improve the software experience for all OnePlus devices.” While it promises two years of security updates, there’s no mention of how often they will be receiving the said security updates. OnePlus had launched more phones this year than it did last year but this doesn’t seem like a good enough reason to not deliver continuous software updates to its two most affordable phones. Samsung, which releases far more devices in a year, has managed to deliver several major software updates to its affordable device. OnePlus’ move is more akin to Motorola, which is not a good sign.
That being said, consumers in India do not have to worry about this since the OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100 are not likely to release in the country. The Asia variants of the devices were recently spotted, which suggests that they could launch in India, but nothing is confirmed as yet.
