iPhone 12 mini (unboxing and first impressions) is the most compact model in this year’s iPhone lineup. However, it should be pointed out that the compact size doesn’t come at the compromise of hardware and features. In fact, the iPhone 12 mini comes with the same processor as well as the camera units as the regular iPhone 12 (review). If you still have doubts about whether the ‘mini’ variant (which is the most affordable one in the new lineup) actually offers great camera performance or not, we are here to help you out. We decided to take the handset out to try out its cameras in different lighting conditions, and while the in-depth review of the phone is in the pipeline, here are some camera samples for you to get an early glimpse of the phone’s optic capabilities.

In this portrait shot, you can see that the iPhone 12 mini does a good job of separating the subject from the background.
In this long shot, the iPhone 12 mini reproduced fairly accurate colour tones.
This image, in particular, shows the high level of detail captured by the iPhone 12 mini camera, even when the subject isn’t exposed to a light source.
This night shot taken from the iPhone 12 mini shows how the phone doesn’t miss a beat while clicking pictures at night.
While several phones struggle whilst dealing with light sources in images, the iPhone 12 mini seems to be tackling them really well.
The above camera sample shows how well the iPhone 12 mini can handle dynamic range and shadows.

As we mentioned earlier, we are still testing the iPhone 12 mini and will be posting an in-depth review of the phone really soon as well. Having looked at the camera samples captures from the phone till now, what do you think about the phone’s camera? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned for the full review.
