Apple announced new M1-powered MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini as well. Additionally, the company revealed the macOS Big Sur release date, which has been highly anticipated. The newest computer operating system is all set to roll out worldwide to eligible Macs starting Thursday, November 12th. macOS Big Sur is undoubtedly one of the more significant software upgrades over the years and it brings a host of features and is also optimised with the M1 chip, though that’s something that only the newly-launched Macs can take advantage of. macOS Big Sur keeps up with Apple’s long-standing tradition of impeccable software support. All MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Pro models released after 2013 are eligible for the update. Other compatible devices include Mac Mini and iMac models launched after 2014, and post-2017 iMac Pros. It goes without saying that the newly-released MacBooks and Mac Mini will run macOS Big Sur out of the box.

As mentioned earlier, macOS Big Sur is host to a lot of UI tweaks. For starters, it lets you move your Dock around, and makes it blend in with your wallpaper. Even the Menu Bar adapts dynamically to the wallpaper’s colour. macOS Big Sur also changes the icons of some apps and adds new symbols to toolbars, sidebars, and controls. The iPhone-like Control Center gives you quick and easy access to often-used controls like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Airdrop without forcing you to navigate to the Settings app. The notification centre now groups notifications better, making it a lot easier for users to sift through instant messages, emails, reminders, etc.
Safari has also been improved with easier navigation and customisable start page. You’ll also see upgraded Messages, Maps, and new privacy features as well. Lastly, macOS Big Sur lets you instantly output audio to the AirPods. Apple states that macOS Big Sur is tailor-made for its new range of MacBooks and that it will help users on older x86 hardware get accustomed to Apple Silicon.
