The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE launched globally a few days ago and is expected to launch in India this month. This is the cheapest flagship smartphone from Samsung this year as it is priced much lower than the Galaxy S20. The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE debuts with flagship specifications and features, which the company claims its fans have asked for. The S20 FE comes with a punch-hole display, IP68 certification, 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 865 SoC, and 12MP triple rear cameras, among other things. Can the phone take on the flagship OnePlus 8 Pro (review) in India? Let’s find out.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE vs OnePlus 8 Pro: Design

OnePlus 8T may look similar to Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, but the OnePlus 8 Pro boasts a different design. The handset flaunts an edge-to-edge screen with curved edges and a punch-hole in the top left corner. The rear panel of the handset sports a quad-camera setup vertically-stacked at the centre. The fingerprint scanner is embedded under the display, and on the right spine, the phone houses alert slider and power button. The volume buttons are on the left spine, while USB Type-C port and speaker grille are at the bottom.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, in contrast, has similar design language as the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series. The handset comes with a flat screen and a centre-aligned punch-hole atop for the selfie camera. Around the back, the phone sports triple rear cameras in a rectangular module. The S20 FE also sports an in-display fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C port and speaker grille at the bottom edge. The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right spine of the phone.

In addition to this, both phones come with a glass sandwich design. The S20 FE, however, has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, whereas the OnePlus 8 Pro sports Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE vs OnePlus 8 Pro: Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE specifications include a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display that bears 120Hz refresh rate. The handset’s 4G variant is powered by an octa-core Exynos 990 SoC, while the 5G variant rocks Snapdragon 865 SoC under the hood. Both 4G and 5G models come with up to 8GB of RAM + 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The handset is driven by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging and wireless charging. There is also Samsung’s Wireless PowerShare for sharing the power with wireless charging-supported devices. The handset is IP68 certified.

For photography, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE sports triple rear camera setup that houses a 12MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens as well as supports optical image stabilisation (OIS) and dual-phase detection autofocus, 12MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and 123-degree field of view (FoV), and an 8MP telephoto shooter with an f/2.0 aperture. Upfront, the handset packs a 32MP snapper with autofocus for selfies and video calling. The S20 FE runs Android 10-based One UI 2.0 out of the box and comes with stereo speakers optimised by AKG. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.

OnePlus 8 Pro in Ultramarine Blue

The OnePlus 8 Pro, on the contrary, has a 6.7-inch 120Hz QHD+ display instead of FHD+. The handset has Snapdragon 865 SoC ticking at its core coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone is also IP68 water and dust resistance certified. The handset houses a 4,510mAh battery that supports fast 30T Warp wired and wireless charging. In optics, the OnePlus 8 Pro touts quad-camera setup consisting of 48MP Sony IMX689 primary sensor with OIS, EIS, and f/1.78. You also get 8MP telephoto lens, 48MP ultra-wide lens, and 5MP colour filter lens.

The front camera of the phone features 16MP snapper for selfies and video calling. The handset boots OxygenOS with Android 10 out of the box. In terms of connectivity, the phone is equipped with 4G, 5G, dual SIMs, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.1, NFC, GPS, and Type-C port for charging and data sync. The OnePlus 8 Pro touts dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE vs OnePlus 8 Pro: Price in India

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE price in India hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s globally selling at $699 (approx Rs 51,400) for the base 5G model. There is no word on the handset’s 4G model that rocks Exynos 990 SoC under the hood at the moment. The smartphone is set to launch in India soon though an exact date has not been revealed yet. The phone comes in Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White colour options.

The OnePlus 8 Pro price in India is Rs 54,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB variant, while the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option costs Rs 59,999. The handset is available for sale via Amazon.in and OnePlus e-store in Glacial Green, Onyx Black, and Ultramarine Blue colours.
