The PUBG Mobile ban in India has forced PUBG Corporation to forge a deal with an Indian partner to stage a comeback. It seems the alleged talks with Jio have failed as PUBG Corp. is now in conversation with Airtel over the distribution rights of PUBG Mobile in India. “The talks with Airtel is in early-stage… this shows that PUBG has been trying hard to get back into the Indian market,” as per a report by Entrackr. PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite were removed from Google Play Store and App Store following the ban last month and there seems to be no clue on when and if the game will return.

The Sensor Tower Data shows that PUBG has seen a 26 percent fall in global downloads in the month of September and the primary reason for the same is the ban on PUBG Mobile in India. The app garnered around 10.7 million downloads globally in September, a 26.7% fall in the number of installs from 14.6 million in August. It’s worth noting that India has been contributing around 30-35 percent to PUBG Mobile’s overall downloads.
Prior to Airtel, PUBG Mobile was working out a deal with Jio, which Entrackr (citing sources) claims has failed to reach any conclusive stage. This is the reason PUBG Mobile promoters have started exploring other opportunities in the market. The report adds that “the gaming platform is also busy in raising a lean team in India. It has been interviewing candidates with experience of under 4 to 6 years.” Airtel and PUBG have not commented on the development yet.
Meanwhile, there has been no relaxation for PUBG and other banned Chinese apps such as TikTok, AliExpress, UC Browser, and more from the Indian government yet. A spokeswoman for PUBG Corp; however, recently told Reuters that the company was closely reviewing India’s concerns and is looking to work on improving things in order to bring the game back.
