Apple’s hardware event ‘Time Flies’ is just a few hours away and there are speculations the Cupertino giant might only unveil new Apple Watch and iPad models. The company is said to reserve the iPhone 12 series for a separate event in October, thanks to production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, according to noted Apple analyst, Ming-Chi-Kuo, the iPhone 12 lineup, including the Pro models, will not come with 120Hz ProMotion displays, MacRumours reports. The analyst cites the battery life as a reason for not including a high refresh rate and the phones are said to use a lower-power LTPO display technology. The iPhone 12 battery life will likely be affected more than usual thanks to the inclusion of 5G.
If true, this would be disappointing news for Apple fans who were hoping to see 120Hz displays on the upcoming iPhone 12 models. This also means we will have to wait another year before Apple updates its iPhones to 120Hz. Meanwhile, Android phone manufacturers have already embraced 90Hz and 120Hz refresh rates and are not only seen on flagship phones but also on low-end phones as well.
iPhone 12 series is said to comprise of four models, including the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 lineup will be powered by the A14 Bionic SoC and have 5G connectivity. The notch size is said to be reduced slightly and the Face ID sensor is said to get a wider field of view. They will have a square-camera module at the back, wherein the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max models are tipped to come with dual-cameras, while the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are expected to get a triple-camera setup with a LiDAR sensor.
The cameras are said to come with improved low-light performance and the telephoto lens zoom will be bumped up to 3x optical zoom. The iPhone 12 series is said to adopt an iPad Pro like design with a flat stainless steel frame and rounded corners. The flagships are expected to undergo internal design changes, including the battery placement.
