  • Redmi K40 is set to launch later today

The highly-awaited Redmi K40 series is all set to make its debut in China today (February 25th, 2021). Based on what we know so far, it is tipped to come with exciting specifications. We have now discovered that the Redmi K40 will be launched globally as a 5G POCO phone. The information is based on an IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) listing, which shows us the M2012K11AG (global Redmi K40 variant) being certified as a POCO smartphone. POCO has, on several occasions, launched Redmi smartphones as its own. The Redmi K30 was launched the POCO X2 globally, and it looks like the Redmi K40 will also be rebranded as a POCO 5G phone.

The IMDA listing reveals that the POCO phone will come with 5G connectivity, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC, which are expected features. There is no word yet on what this phone will be called since the POCO X3 has already been launched. With the Redmi K40 expected to launch with flagship specifications, it’s possible POCO will launch it globally as part of the POCO F series.

Redmi K40 specifications

The Redmi K40 is confirmed to feature a 6.8-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will feature the smallest-ever hole-punch camera ever seen on a smartphone if Redmi CEO Lei Jun is to be believed. Previous leaks have told us that the vanilla Redmi K40 will run a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. The vanilla Redmi K40 may come with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Redmi K40 will come with four rear camera modules, but we don’t know more about its exact configuration. We’re probably looking at a 64MP primary sensor, an ultra-wide-angle lens, a macro lens, and a depth sensor.  Connectivity features on both phones will include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. It is tipped to offer a 4,500mAh battery and runs on Android 11 based on MIUI 12 or MIUI 12.5 on top.
