  • Mi 10T series launched in India last week
  • Mi 10T price in India starts at Rs 35,999
  • The premium smartphones come with LCD instead of OLED screens

Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro prices in India were announced last week and the flagship phones start from Rs 35,999. As premium devices, the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro specifications look great with 144Hz refresh rate, up to 108MP cameras, Snapdragon 865 SoC, and more. However, people expressed issues with the fact that the phones come with LCD panels rather than OLED. The general thought is that LCD panels are inferior to OLED panels as they don’t offer a wide colour gamut and deep blacks the way OLED panels do. Now, talking to TechRadar, Daniel Hoang Desjarlais, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Xiaomi explained why the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro come with LCD screens.

Regarding the flat screens on the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro, the Xiaomi executive said, “I’ve done quite a bit of polling and user research on this. 60 percent of users prefer the flat edge or flat displays. I think this is for a variety of reasons, like the ease of use – people are dealing with missed touches on the curved display. I understand that the premium segment is pretty much all curved, and that creates a problem – if 60 percent of the population prefers flat [-edged displays] but they also want a real flagship experience, they’re forced into purchasing a curved display they might not be happy with.” It is quite evident the company seems to be focusing on desire top-end features, instead, of fancies like curved panels.

It is better to have a high-quality LCD, the best of the best LCD, versus a middling sort of AMOLED

Talking about the reason behind choosing an LCD panel over AMOLED screen, Daniel Hoang opined that using a high-quality LCD panel is a better choice than picking a mediocre AMOLED screen. “There are issues with AMOLED and certain peoples’ eyes – I think it’s like 10 percent of the population when looking at an AMOLED display, experience very heavy eyestrain,” noted Desjarlais.

Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro prices in India start from Rs 35,999, which makes them aggressively-priced flagship devices. We are yet to review the phones, so we cannot comment on the quality of the displays just yet. However, the Mi 10T series offers an impressive specs sheet as the phones look to take on the OnePlus 8T, which comes with an AMOLED screen and is priced starting at Rs 42,999.
