Apple has announced an online-only event for September 15th — the Time Flies tagline of the event suggests a launch event focussing on the next-generation smartwatches. The company’s lineup for the second half of 2020 reportedly includes four iPhones, a new iPad Air, and a new iPad, along with the Apple Watch Series 6. The Time Flies event is scheduled to start at 1pm ET/ 10am PT/ 10:30pm IST on September 15th. It is not yet official, but it’s likely that the launch event will be streamed live on Apple’s website as well YouTube channel. This will be the second major online-only event the company will host after WWDC in June this year, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
Not a lot is known about Apple Watch Series 6 at the moment, but the new models are expected to feature new health features such as blood oxygen monitoring and enhanced sleep tracking. A recent report says Apple will launch a cheaper series to replace the ageing Series 3 models. WatchOS 7 will also be part of the package and will be released within days of the September 15th event.
All eyes, of course, will be on the iPhone 12 series. This year’s iPhone portfolio is rumoured to be the biggest yet – the iPhone 12 series is said to consist of as many as four models. These will reportedly include two iPhone 12 models and two iPhone 12 Pro, each with different screen sizes. The base model will have a 5.4-inch screen, the iPhone 12 Max and 12 Pro will have 6.1-inch displays, and the top-of-the-line 12 Pro Max model will have a 6.7-inch panel, the biggest yet for Apple. The Pro models are said to come with triple cameras and LiDAR sensor, while the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will have dual cameras. All four models will reportedly feature OLED screens, smaller notches, and 5G support. Of course, the A14 Bionic chipset will be powering all four processors. Battery capacities of the four models will be 2,227mAh (iPhone 12), 2,775mAh (12 Max), 2,775 (12 Pro), and 3,676mAh (12 Pro Max), according to a recent certification.
Interestingly, Apple is not expected to bundle the usual wired EarPods and charger with its 2020 smartphones.

Earlier rumours said Apple will be using 120Hz refresh rates on iPhone 12 but more recent reports have claimed otherwise. Nonetheless, the usually accurate Jon Prosser in late August tweeted an alleged screenshot from an iPhone 12 Pro Max prototype showing the 120Hz refresh rate option. We will have to wait to see what eventually materialises on this front.
We can expect more iPhone 12 news next year as well — apparently, Apple plans to launch 4G-only iPhone 12 models in early 2021 and release made in India models in mid-2021.
